TRI DRACO

Today we'll be reviewing one of TRIs Latest releases. It utilizes a 2 Dynamic Driver set up. This IEM is called the Draco. I have tried quite a few of TRIs offerings in the past and they have never failed to impress me. From design quality to sound quality. I personally feel that their IEMs are one of the most aesthetic. Though they chose a more simple exterior this time, let's see if their sound quality is still up there.

This review unit was kindly sent to us from Keephifi for the sole purpose of this review. I will remain unbiased in my review and offer my honest thoughts and opinions on the product. I would like to thank Vivian for arranging this unit for review.

Packaging:

The Draco comes in a relatively small box. It's certainly not as big as the boxes you get from brands like Kinera. Box is small and presentation is simple but that won't matter if it sounds good right?

As you can see from the specifications, the Draco is a relatively easy IEM to drive but as a Dynamic Driver IEM, it will benefit from a little extra amplification. For example, a CX31993 dongle would be more than sufficient.

Accessories:

When you receive the Draco the cables and 3 sets of Ear-tips are stored in this case.

The cable that comes with the Draco is a Silver Plated Copper cable. It does the job but in the long run you might eventually decide to swap it out for a better cable.

There are 3 different sets of Ear-tips for you to choose from. Personally, just use what fits you best and whatever you like most.

Design:

When we look at the TRI Draco, it has quite a unique design. The housing reminds me of Campfire IEMs but is more rounded. Some might find the Draco uncomfortable but for me, it was alright. There are also a lot of vents on the housing of the Draco as it runs on 2 dynamic drivers. But I would also believe that the vents and open back design would help in the soundstage.

Sound:

The Draco has a very warm signature with quite a bit of emphasis placed on the mids. This results in a non-offensive tuning but at the same time very full and rich vocals.

The Draco has 2DDs which would probably make you think that this would be a very bassy set but contrary to that, the bass here is very controlled and tastefully done. It is very well textured and when there is a need, it will meet. When there is a need for lows, the Draco delivers. It will go low when needed and there is a good amount of rumble but not an earthshaking amount. The midbass doesnt bleed into the mids much also so the mids still come across pretty cleanly.

The lower mids on this set are more forward than usual so this results in a very full sounding listening experience. Male vocals are presented very soothingly without coming across as too thick. As for female vocals, they come off as vibrate and very lively. The mids are more forward on this set but it is not harsh or sibilant in any way.

The treble here is very well extended without ever coming across as harsh. It is well extended and present a good amount of detail and is very clean. I never found it to be sibilant at any point in time. For it to sound crisp and well extended is amazing for a 2DD set up. I have to say I am very impressed.

That's not all. The soundstage on the Draco is even more impressive. It has got excellent height, width and depth. This is probably due to the fact that the Draco has an open back design and a lot of vents which results in a very huge soundstage. Probably one of the best in this price point.

The imaging on this set is also pretty good and performs above average. you can easily pinpoint where all the different instruments are coming from without difficulty. Detail retrieval is also very good on this set. It definitely is not the best but it is impressive for the price and driver set up.

Conclusion:

For the price, the Draco is a IEM that performs well offers great value to its listeners. The soundstage on the Draco is what has left me the most impressed. I highly recommend this set for those who like a warm inoffensive yet fun tuning and want a big soundstage. TRI has come a long way and this product is one that will remembered in their books.
