Today we'll be reviewing the BC04 from CCZ. It has been a while since I reviewed an IEM so this will be my first review in a while. I first heard of CCZ a few years back especially when the coffee bean was released by them. A few years later now, they have released the BC04. I have not gotten to try their previous offerings so this is the first product from CCZ I am reviewing and so far I am very impressed.
This unit was kindly provided to me by Vivian from KeepHifi for the purpose of this review. I would like to thank Vivian, KeepHifi and CCZ for this opportunity to review their product.
The CCZ BC04 is a IEM in the budget category. It retails for $25.99USD on KeepHifi which is a very affordable price. In fact, I personally feel the CCZ BC04 performs very well for it's price. It seems to be a DD+BA set up. In terms of driver set up I don't think it is anything too special but what is interesting is that they have opted to go with a Carbon Nanotube Driver which is pretty interesting.
Packaging and Accessories:
The CCZ BC04 comes with a very simple and standard packaging as with all their other products. There are 2 sets of Ear Tips and a stock cable and of course the IEMs. The stock cable is off good quality and seems durable. The ear-tips also fit me nicely and are comfortable for long listening session.
Design:
The BC04 is made out of resin with a metal face place. On the part in contact with your ear it has a silicone piece there to prevent the IEM from slipping out which is something I have never seen before so it is very interesting. The BC04 is comfortable for me but it is noticeably on the bigger side so for those with smaller ears it might be uncomfortable for extended periods of listening.
Sound:
Just like most other IEMs in this price range, the BC04 is mainly a very bass dominant set. The BC04 has very nicely textured bass and a good amount of rumble to it. It does all this while maintaining the speed and does not bleed into the mids much. Never did I find that the bass on the BC04 made the IEM sound too muddy in anyway. Relative to the price, I think the bass on the BC04 is very well done.
The mids have a good amount of clarity and sparkle. The mids on the BC04 seems to be a little on the warmer side. Male vocals sound very full but female vocals are also really pleasant. It did not sound shouty at all. On really bass heavy tracks there can be occasional bass bleed but for the most part, the mids sounded very enjoyable.
Treble on the BC04 is very well extended and is airy. It has good detail retrieval and clarity. It manages to do all this without coming across as sibilant or harsh in any way.
The soundstage on the BC04 is decently wide and has good height. Instrument separation is not bad either. It is easy to point out where different instruments and vocals are. However on complicated tracks there might be a little bit of congestion.
Compared to other budget IEMs in the market, I feel that the CCZ BC04 is very competitive as I feel the BC04 is a very well executed product with its awesome design to non-offensive tuning that will please most listeners. It is also one of the cheaper offerings in the market making. It just shows that to have good sound, it won't cost you a lot these days thanks to brands like CCZ.
Overall:
In conclusion the BC04 is a very good budget option and very budget friendly. It is also very good in terms of price to quality ratio. For a daily carry or something for rough usage, I can highly recommend the BC04. Not only is the sound quality impressive, but the build quality is very good too.
