Retailing at $159, Is the Voyager 3 really worth the price? Let's find out in this review.
As you can tell from the title, I personally find the the Voyager 3 not very competitive compared to other models that Thieaudio has produced. The Thieaudio Voyager 3 is a hit or miss in my opinion.
Packaging is minimal. Not like the Legacy 3 at all. They literally give you only a metal case with ear tips and the tuning switch tool.
EQ switches are not labelled so tuning may be hard to figure out for some. Difference is also minimal but for the purpose of this review I stuck with the most detailed tuning on the Voyager 3.
Fit is ok for me. Does no really have a semi custom shape but it fits well. On the larger side so may not fit well for smaller ears. Good isolation due to it having no vents and also its really long nozzle helps.
Nice stock cable. Well braided and of good quality. No complaints.
Sound wise, bass is clean tight and has got good weight. Very punchy and when a rumble is needed, it is there. Mids are not muddied by the bass and is clear and detailed. Sounds very natural too and is elevated in my opinion but gives great instrument separation. Treble has got good details and does not sound excessive at any point in time and the whole frequency spectrum is well balanced.
Compared to the Legacy 3, this is really a disappointment in my opinion. The Legacy has a better bass due to the dynamic driver compared to the Voyager 3s BA driver. Even though detail retrieval may not be as good as the Voyager 3 and does not have the same extension, they do come pretty close. In terms of mid-range, they seem to be very very close and it is not really wise to say that one is better than the other. It is just which one you would prefer. Packaging wise, the Legacy 3 is also more well presented with a proper box and a cable with good specifications unlike the nameless Voyager 3 cable. Isolation also comes quite close to the Voyager 3 and for a vented IEM, that is really impressive. For $120, you can get the Legacy 3 which trashes the Voyager 3 very badly.
This is why I questioned the competitiveness of the Voyager 3s pricing at the start of the review. If they were selling this at $120, I would consider. But for $159, It's a definite no no for me. In conclusion, the Voyager 3 is a great IEM, but pricing is not competitive at all.
This unit was purchased with our own fundings. We are not affiliated with Thieaudio in anyway and this review was done with our honest and most critical opinion of the product.
