1Custom JR: King of details

Today we will be taking a look at one of my personal favorites. It is the 1Custom JR. I purchased this unit at Jaben at a discounted price for the purpose of this review. Thank you Jaben for giving me the discount.

The 1Custom JR is a brand by Jaben if I am not wrong. I only discovered this brand on carousell a while back. This is actually my second set of 1Custom JR IEM. I used to own a 1Custom JR previously and used it heavily till it broke down haha. The 1Custom JR I owned previously has some differences compared to this unit.

In the first version, the nozzle was made of resin. The current version is now using a metal nozzle. I feel that the tuning might have changed slightly as well. The stock cable is also different with a more stiff, robust and heavy duty build. It even has a mic now. The case has also changed from a semi-hard case to a padded resin hard case. Mic quality is decent so I won't go into too much details about it. The Ear-Tips are still the same.

My first impression on the newer version is that firstly, the mid range and vocals seem to be taking the backseat this time. The bass is more punchy and has a better rumble compared to the previous version. The treble has also become even more detailed and has minimal to almost no sibilance at all. The soundstage is also rather wide. You can also easily tell where the instruments are placed easily and they don't sound to clumpy and congested and mixed up.

The bass is well textured in this version and is back with a better rumble. It's presence is very strong and makes it ideal for pop music and it makes it a fantastic all rounder as well. There are also tuning switches on the IEM so if you would like a more prominent bass or less prominent bass you can feel free to play around with the switches. They are pretty effective is changing the tuning to it will be easy top achieve your ideal sound signature. It is very well textured. It also doesn't overpower the other frequencies in any way.

The mids are not as forward sounding as the previous version. Otherwise there is really nothing much to say since they don't really differ a lot. The treble however seems to have way better details sounding more crisp and has more sparkle. It is amazing how well the highs does with very minimal peaks and sibilance so it is not fatiguing. For such a bright IEM, it is really amazing that its not harsh on the ears.

In conclusion, I wish the mids sounded a bit more forward. Otherwise, I pretty much like everything about the 1Custom JR. There is nothing much to really complain about it and anyways, its tunable. If you don't like it, tune it. That's what the switches are for after all right?
